When buying a new smartphone, one of the concerns is the internal storage space (8GB, 16GB, 32G, 64GB and up to 128GB). The cheaper models usually have only 8GB of storage to store personal data and still you need some more space for system data. Therefore, users like me who keep many files such as videos, music, photos and games, need a model with greater storage capacity. A cheaper alternative is to invest in a memory card.
Today, most smartphones have a slot for inserting a MicroSD card, (except for a few. for example, the Moto X 2014 or even top of the line smartphones like Samsung Galaxy Note 5). Smartphones that allow inserting an SD card, have a capacity of up to 128GB. But did you know that there are a number of differences between the models of SD cards which directly effects on the performance and speed.
Which Memory card is best? Class 4, Class 6, or Class 10? Which one to choose?
MicroSD cards can be classified as storage capacity and transmission speed. Models classified only as SD (acronym for Secure Digital) has a capacity between 128 MB and 2 GB and SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) are available with 4 GB models up to 32 GB and finally the SDXC (Secure Digital Extended Capacity) can have up to 2 TB of storage space.
In term of writing speed they can be sorted by “Classes” (Class). They are as follows, 4, 6 and 10, in addition to UHS 1 and 3. To understand the minimum speed of each class of data transmission see below:
UHS 3 – has a minimum data transmission speed of 30 MB / second, which is high speed and recording 4K and 2K video.
UHS 1 – has a minimum data transmission speed of 10 MB / second, it reaches average speed and has HD video recording, Full HD and continuous photos (Shooting).
CLASS 10 – has a minimum data transmission speed of 10 MB / second and achieves high speed and has HD video recording, Full HD and continuous photos (Shooting).
CLASS 6 – has a minimum data transmission speed of 6MB / second, reaches average speed and has video recording in HD and Full HD.
CLASS 4 – has a minimum data transmission speed of 4 MB, reaches average speed and has video recording in HD.
CLASS 2 – has a minimum data transmission speed of of 2 MB / s, reaches minimum speed and has video recording in HQ.
